Donado's Late Strike Lifts Men's Soccer to 3-2 Season-Opening Win

Men's Soccer Earns Victory at Muhlenberg

Jonathan Donado's goal during the final 10 minutes lifted WP to a 3-2 victory.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Junior Jonathan Donado's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) strike into the corner of the goal from 30 yards out lifted the William Paterson men's soccer team (1-0) to an inspired 3-2 victory at Muhlenberg (0-1) in the season opener for both teams Aug. 29. Donado's blast broke a 2-2 deadlock with 8:28 remaining in the match, ensuring the Pioneers a 1-0 season start for the third time in four years.

Muhlenberg struck first with a goal in the 11th minute, but sophomore Steve DeMatteo (Piscataway, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) connected for his first career score to knot the game at 1-1. The Mules again took the lead with an unassisted strike just 44 seconds into the second half, but WP sophomore Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) found the back of the net with 30 minutes remaining to tie the match at 2-2. 


Junior Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) made four saves for his second career victory in his third start.

WP will return to action Saturday, Aug. 30, at Moravian at 3:00 p.m.
