Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 15 William Paterson field hockey team earned its 15th victory of the season as the top-seeded Pioneers breezed past eighth-seeded Misericordia (13-7), 5-0, in the first round of the ECAC Field Hockey Mid-Atlantic Tournament Nov. 12 at Wightman Stadium.

William Paterson will face fourth-seeded Catholic University in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament semifinals Saturday, Nov. 15. The site and time of that contest will be determined on Nov. 13. The Pioneers, now 15-3 overall this season, are one shy of the program's top win total, a 16-5 mark during the 2003 campaign.

Sophomore Lauren Duensing (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) got the offense started in the ninth minute, scoring her first goal of the night off a broken-corner pass from junior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.).

Junior Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) made it a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute when she cracked a hard shot from 12 yards in front of the cage, scoring her third goal of the season. Winkelspecht added a 26th-minute strike, her 12th goal of the year, thanks to a Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) assist, and Hall connected a pass to Duensing at the far post for Duensing's second goal of the night and her third goal of the year, making it a 4-0 score 8:14 before halftime.

Feriod drove another hard shot into the boards, this one 8:13 into the second period, to push the Pioneers ahead 5-0.

Junior Ellen Howanitz made eight saves for Misericordia, while WP junior goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had three stops.
