WAYNE, N.J. – In a match-up of two of the top women's soccer teams in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), host William Paterson (8-0-1, 3-0-1 NJAC) rallied from an early deficit to defeat Kean (7-3, 3-2 NJAC), 3-1, Oct. 4 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Cougars, tied for first in the league standings, broke open the scoring in the 17th minute when freshman Lauren Small sent a beautiful ball into the box and senior Nicole Tahan was able to slip it to a waiting Amanda Pitts on the right side of the six. Pitts buried the shot for her fourth goal of the year and a 1-0 Kean lead.

William Paterson, tied for third in the NJAC standings entering the day's action, saw freshman Ashley Grabowski (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) even the contest 4:30 before halftime, tucking a ball inside the right post from the top of the box for her second goal of the season.

Senior Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) made it a 2-1 Pioneer advantage 2:32 into the second period, sprinting on to a ball played over the top by classmate Alyssa Tinari (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) and beating charging Kean goalkeeper Nicole Groszew. Kurdyla later scored her 13th goal of the year on a very similar play, this one assisted by sophomore Kathleen Maggi (New Milford, N.J./New Milford), for a 3-1 score in the 60th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) had eight saves for the Pioneers, while Groszew made three stops for the Cougars.

William Paterson will host NYU Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m. Kean will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Wilkes at 4:00 p.m.
