Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – No. 15 Rowan (9-0-1, 4-0-1 NJAC) handed William Paterson (9-1-1, 3-1-1 NJAC) its first loss of the year, a 3-0 decision in women's soccer play Oct. 11 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Profs finally broke the ice 3:32 into the second half, when a long throw deep in the Pioneers' end resulted in an opportunity that freshman Nina Fragoso buried for her third goal of the year. Classmate Veronica Rhea , who assisted on the goal, scored one of her own 11 minutes later when she hit a hard shot into the upper-right corner of the frame from the top of the box, handing Rowan a 2-0 advantage in the 60th minute.

Junior Krista Verzi finished the scoring with 10:10 remaining, getting on to the end of a free kick and finding an empty net after WP keeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) came out to try to snag the in-between ball.

William Paterson had a pair of excellent chances during the opening period, the first a cross to the left side of the box that Vikki Cicak (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) hit just wide of the right post, and the second a ball played to Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) up the left flank that she short-sided while trying to beat the charging goalkeeper.

Baker made two saves for William Paterson, while junior Sarah Volkomer had one stop for Rowan.

William Paterson will host New Jersey City Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 4:00 p.m. Rowan will host Kean Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
