Women's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie at Rutgers-Newark

Both Goals Scored during Game's Final Minute

Amanda Kurdyla scored her 11th goal of the year in a 1-1 tie at Rutgers-Newark.

NEWARK, N.J. – After a scoreless 89 minutes of action, both teams found the back of the net during the 47 seconds of regulation, resulting in a 1-1 double-overtime tie between William Paterson (7-0-1, 2-0-1 NJAC) and Rutgers-Newark (5-4-1, 1-2-1 NJAC) in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's soccer action Oct. 1.

Senior Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) finally broke the ice when she gave William Paterson a 1-0 edge with 47 seconds to play, finishing an Ashley Grabowski (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) cross. However, Liana Abreu came up with the game-tying goal for the Scarlet Raiders, connecting on a Julia Caseres restart kick that came off the crossbar, forging a 1-1 tie with three seconds showing on the scoreboard.

Junior goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) played the first half without a save for the Pioneers, and senior Caitlin Kiernan (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) played the final 65:00 and made five stops.  

William Paterson will return to the Pioneer Soccer Park Saturday, Oct. 4, hosting Kean at 5:00 p.m.
