Valerio Scores Twice as Pioneers Fall at Ramapo, 3-2

MAHWAH , N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (6-4, 1-3 NJAC) could not sustain a late lead at Ramapo (7-1-1, 1-1-1 NJAC), losing to the Roadrunners 3-2 Sept. 26.

Freshman Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) scored both goals for the Pioneers, the first coming in the 25th minute when he struck the back of the net with an unassisted goal. After Ramapo tied the match 2:48 before halftime, Valerio gave the Pioneers a one-goal lead in the 55th minute, converting a penalty kick for his third goal of the season.

Another penalty kick was awarded, this time to Ramapo, and the Roadrunners tied the score at the 80:26 mark. Just a little more than a minute later, Ken Hussey converted Jim Clementi's pass to nudge the Roadrunners ahead for good at 3-2.

Senior goalkeeper David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made four saves for the Pioneers, and the William Paterson defenders added a pair of team saves.

The Pioneers will host Rowan Saturday, Sept. 29, at 5:00 p.m.
