JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (4-1) came from behind for a 4-1 victory over NJCU (3-2) Sept. 15 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both schools at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.

The Gothic Knights took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when freshman forward Jennifer Albuja found the back of the net on a pass from freshman defender Ariane Emabat. Albuja's early goal marked her 10th in only her fifth career match for NJCU.

The Pioneers tied the game in the 30th minute when junior forward Samantha Flynn (Lindenwold, N.J./Lindenwold) knocked in a loose ball inside the six yard line, scoring her first goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, junior forward Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) stole a ball and pushed to the goal, scoring her seventh goal of the season and giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.

The second half of the game remained scoreless until the 73rd minute, when freshman forward Drea Wagoner (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) capitalized on a short cross from Kurdyla from the left of the box, giving Kurdyla her first assist of the season.

Kurdyla finished the scoring in the 83rd minute with her eight goal of the season, when Flynn fed a pass from the left side, blasting a high shot into the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) had three saves for the Pioneers. NJCU freshman goalkeeper Kelly Reilly made a career-high 12 saves.

The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, hosting NJAC rival Montclair State at 7:00 p.m.
