Stockton Holds on for 1-0 Win against Pioneers

POMONA, N.J. – Richard Stockton (10-2-1, 3-1-1 NJAC) blanked William Paterson (6-6, 2-3 NJAC) 1-0 in an NJAC women's soccer match Oct. 6.

Val Davison scored the game-winning goal in the first half for the Ospreys. Stockton goalkeeper Alex Rogers made two saves for her sixth shutout of the season. Stockton has not allowed a goal in the last 285 minutes.

William Paterson goalie Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made three saves in the match. Neither team generated much offense, with Stockton outshooting the Pioneers, 7-2.

Davison picked up a loose ball, dribbled into the box and scored on a 15-yard shot at 13:31 for her third goal of the season. Shelley Gibney nearly gave Stockton some breathing room in the second half on a sharp-angle shot that glanced off the crossbar. William Paterson had one last chance in the closing seconds, but a soft 18-yard shot by Vikki Cicak (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) was caught by Rogers to preserve the shutout and 1-0 victory.

William Paterson will host third-ranked The College of New Jersey Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 3:30 p.m.
