Pioneers Fall to Kean in Season Finale, 3-1

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (8-9-1, 2-7 NJAC) lost to visiting Kean (9-10, 4-5 NJAC), 3-1, in the Pioneers' final match of the season Oct. 24 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Freshman defender Jerry Mecca (Ridgefield, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored his second goal of the season and only Pioneer goal of the match with only 30 seconds remaining in the first half, finishing a well-placed pass from freshman forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manapalan).

The second half saw three unanswered Kean goals, two by senior midfielder Konrad Kruczek and one by senior midfielder Thomas Fink.

Senior keeper Kyle Crego made three stops for the Cougars, improving his record to 7-6 overall.

Senior goalkeeper David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made five saves for WPU, bringing his record to 7-9-1 overall. The Pioneers honored Casper, the lone senior and captain, for his achievements and dedication to the men's soccer program. In his two years with WPU, Casper started in 30 of 31 career games and earned 2006 honorable-mention all-NJAC accolades after posting a 1.66 goals-against average, five shutouts and a .742 save percentage.
