Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) became the Pioneers' single-season goals leader with a hat trick in the William Paterson women's soccer team's (8-8, 3-5 NJAC) 3-0 victory against Rutgers-Newark (5-11-1, 1-6-1 NJAC), Oct. 20 at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
Kurdyla opened the scoring in the 34th minute of the first half, taking a ball from junior midfielder
Natale Buongiorno (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) and dribbling around the Scarlet Raider goalkeeper for her 16th goal of the season.
Kurdyla then became the Pioneers' all-time leader for most goals in a season when she finished her 17th goal off a pass from sophomore forward
Jessica Reibis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson) with 2:46 remaining in the first half.
With less than six minutes left in play, freshman forward
Drea Wagoner (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) played a ball across the box, giving Kurdyla her third goal of the game and 18th of the season. The assist marked Wagoner's fourth of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) made one save for the Pioneers. Rutgers-Newark keeper Katie Hastings had three stops for the Scarlet Raiders. With the win, Baker improves her record to 7-8 and registers her second shutout of the season.
