Rutgers-Camden Eases Past Pioneers, 2-0

Freshman defender Matthew Heitmann and the Pioneers lost to Rutgers-Camden 2-0.

WAYNE, N.J. –The William Paterson men's soccer team (7-8,1-6 NJAC) fell to visiting Rutgers-Camden (9-6-1, 4-2-1 NJAC), 2-0, Oct. 13 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Senior midfielder Onur Yilmaz opened the scoring at 21:09 of the first half with his fourth goal of the season, taking a ball from senior defender Chris Amato, dribbling past the Pioneers' defense and driving a low shot into the right corner of the net.

The Scarlet Raptors extended their lead in the 38th minute when sophomore midfielder Mark Gidjunis buried his first goal of the season off a cross from sophomore midfielder Dom Crocetti placing a ball low into the right side of the net.

The second half remained scoreless despite a Rutgers-Camden scoring opportunity in the 88th minute of the game, which was cleared by freshman defender Matthew Heitmann (Westwood, N.J./St. Joseph Regional)

Senior goalkeeper David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made three saves for the Pioneers, bringing his record to 6-7 overall. Senior keeper Brent Grunow made three stops for the Scarlet Raptors, improving his record to 9-6-1 and recording his sixth shutout of the season.

The Pioneers will travel to Patchogue to play St. Joseph's-Long Island Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 3:00 p.m.
