HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (6-4) fell to host Centenary (6-3-1), 2-1, Oct. 1.
Centenary scored its quickest goal of the year to open the game, as freshman Sam Vanni found the head of Tanya DiDonna just 41 seconds after kick-off to give the hosts an early advantage. Each team traded chances the rest of the opening half as the pair of goalkeepers combined for five saves, keeping the score in favor of Centenary at the halftime break. The visiting Pioneers returned the favor, striking first in the second half when Aly Ruddy (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) found Drea Wagoner (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) off a corner kick, knotting the score at 1-1. Eight minutes later, Centenary's Melanie Pupo netted the game winner off a corner from DiDonna.
Sophomore Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made four saves for the Pioneers in goal.
The Pioneers will take on NYU Wednesday, Oct. 3, at NJIT at 7:00 p.m.
