GLASSBORO, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 30, 2006) – The William Paterson men's soccer team (5-5, 1-3 NJAC) dropped a 2-1 decision at Rowan (7-4-1, 1-3-1 NJAC) in men's soccer action Sept. 30.
The Profs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but WPU fought back to within one thanks to a Jason Almeida (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) goal in the 66th minute. The Pioneers had several dangerous chances to tie the match, including a free kick from just outside the box in the closing seconds, but WPU would not score the equalizer.
“The kids fought hard tonight,” said 15th-year WPU head coach Brian Woods. “I believe that we had the better of the play the final 15 minutes, but finishing is our albatross right now. We have to start finishing some shots.”
Junior David Casper (Franklin, N.J./Timothy Christian) made two saves for WPU. The Pioneers owned a 20-11 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 edge in shots on goal.
