WAYNE, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 27, 2006) -- Carlos Moreira's (Union City, N.J.) goal in the 41st minute lifted William Paterson (5-4, 1-2 NJAC) to a 1-0 victory against visiting Ramapo (8-5, 2-2 NJAC) in men's soccer action Sept. 27 at WPU's Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers had both of the first half's dangerous chances, turning one of them into the match's lone goal. Freshman midfielder Jonathan Donado (Wayne, N.J.) headed a free kick off the left corner of the crossbar in the 11 th minute, just missing out on his first career goal. The two teams battled back and forth for much of the half, but with 4:13 on the clock William Paterson broke the ice when sophomore Eric Osman's (Franklin, N.J.) shot ricocheted to the goal line and Moreira chested the ball into the net for his first goal of the season, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Roadrunners had their best scoring opportunity midway through the second period, but Kevin Bradley's stab squirted just wide of the far post.

“I thought we played extremely hard today,” said 15 th-year WPU head coach Brian Woods. “It was a hard-fought win, and hopefully it will put us on the right track for the rest of the season.”

Junior David Casper (Franklin, N.J.) made three saves for WPU, while Patrick Jagodzinski had four stops for Ramapo. The victory was the first in New Jersey Athletoc Conference (NJAC) play this season for the Pioneers.
