WPU Defeats Arcadia

Senior Traci Dombrowski was the winner of the day’s best race, edging out Arcadia’s Michelle McCandles (5:45.34) in the 500 free (5:44.81).
WAYNE , N.J. (DECEMBER 2, 2006) – The William Paterson men's (5-1) and women's (7-1) swimming and diving teams both earned victories against Arcadia Dec. 2.

The Pioneers men were victorious, 96-61. Sophomore Brian Fisher (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) was first in the 50 (23.94) and 100 (54.17) frees. Senior Angel Camacho (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won the 200 fly (2:18.92) and 1,000 free (12:29.25), while freshman Joe Shirrman (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) was first in the 200 free (1:57.59). Sophomore David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:12.03) and the 500 free (5:19.71), while freshman Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Luduika Danka) was victorious in the 200 back (2:10.52). Freshman Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was victorious in the 200 breast (2:37.32). Karas, Smith, Camacho and Shirrman teamed up to win the 400 medley relay (4:05.02), and Karas, Fisher, Caputo and Shirrman won the 400 free relay (3:28.31).

The William Paterson women won, 102-77. Sophomore Grace McKay (Fairlawn, N.J./Fairlawn) had the swim of the day in the 200 backstroke (2:19.64), a personal-best time. Senior Traci Dombrowski (Union, N.J./Union) was the winner of the day's best race, edging out Arcadia's Michelle McCandles (5:45.34) in the 500 free (5:44.81). Junior Katelyn Esposito (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) was the winner of the 1,000 free (12:24.78), while Drombrowski also touched first in the 200 free (2:11.16). Sophomore Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) was victorious in the 50 (26.06) and 100 frees (56.91), junior Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, N.J./ Pequannock) won the 200 IM (2:27.08) and 200 breast (2:42.87), and senior Colleen Takemoto (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was the winner of the 200 fly (2:28.72). McKay, Lyon, Takemoto and Hartwell won the 400 medley relay (4:23.59), and Drombrowski, Donivyn Schmidt (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills), Melanie Mejias (Union, N.J./Union) and Takemoto took first in the 400 free relay (4:07.05).
