Pioneers' Season Ends in ECAC First Round

WAYNE, N.J. (NOVEMBER 8, 2006) – Sophomore Katie Jo Cipriani (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) gave the William Paterson field hockey team (12-7) an early lead, but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers lost in overtime, 2-1, at Catholic (13-7) in the first round of the ECAC Tournament Nov. 8.

Cipriani poked in a rebound in the 15 th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 edge, a lead that stood up for the rest of the first half. However, the Cardinals tied the score 1:03 into the second period when Jayme Dinsmore finished a pass from Ro Dixon. Catholic then won the game on its first shot of overtime as Michele Repass found the back of the cage 3:23 into the extra time.

Senior Grace Browne (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) made four saves in her final game for WPU.

The Pioneers finished the 2006 season with a 12-7 overall record, qualifying for postseason competition for the second time in three years.
