WAYNE, N.J. (OCTOBER 5, 2006) -- Sophomore Katie Jo Cipriani (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) had two goals and an assist, while classmate Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) added a goal and two assists, as William Paterson (7-4) eased past Wilkes (5-5), 4-1, in field hockey action Oct. 5 at Wightman Stadium.
The Pioneers applied the offensive pressure early, scoring three of their four goals in the first 28 minutes. Lauren Frazier (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) started things when she finished an odd-player rush and one-timed the ball into the goal, giving WPU a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Cipriani then found the back of the cage at the 22:00 and 28:05 marks, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead at halftime. Hall knocked in a Cipriani rebound with less than eight minutes to play in the game to finish the scoring for William Paterson.
Senior Grace Browne (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) made three saves for the Pioneers. The shutout for WPU was spoiled when Wilkes' Lauren Risser scored with 10 seconds remaining in the contest.
"We made very good decisions with the ball tonight," said third-year WPU head coach Lindsay Bard. "Katie Jo and Meghan really had great games. Katie Jo worked very hard to get back on defense, and Meghan was responsible for creating all of our goals. Tina Londino had a big impact on the game overall as well. We worked on some things at practice yesterday, and we were able to execute those things tonight. That is a great positive for our team."
