WAYNE, N.J. (OCTOBER 4, 2006) – Sophomore Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J.) scored twice as William Paterson (6-4-1) handed NYU (5-3-1) a 3-0 loss Oct. 4 at the Pioneer Soccer Park .

Kurdyla put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with 33:36 on the clock, striking a ball along the goal line that deflected off a defender and into the net. The Violets had a chance to tie the match 10 minutes later, but Sarah Pillemer's shot hit the post. Kurdyla also had another excellent chance with 15:30 remaining in the half, but her strike sailed just wide.

Sophomore Samantha Flynn (Lindenwold, N.J./Lindenwold) knocked a perfect pass from Laura Conte (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) in at the far post in the 59th minute to give WPU a 2-0 advantage. Kurdyla then tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, running onto a ball from Natale Buongiorno (Northvale, N.J./Old Tappan) and scoring on the breakaway.

Freshman Jessica Reibis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson) made three saves for the Pioneers in goal, while Kurdyla played the final 4:35 and made one stop.

“I told the team that this was not our best game tonight,” said 10th-year WPU head coach Keith Woods. “I think our confidence level is very high right now, and that helped us. The mark of a great team is that they find a win to win even when they don't play their best game, and we were able to do that tonight.”

The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 11, when they play at TCNJ at 7:30 p.m.
