Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. (OCTOBER 31, 2006) – Sophomore Katie Jo Cipriani (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) scored twice as the William Paterson field hockey team (12-6, 3-3 NJAC) defeated Ramapo (6-10, 0-6 NJAC), 4-2, in the final regular-season contest for both schools Oct. 31.

The Pioneers took just three shots during the game's first 35 minutes, but they scored twice off those chances. Cipriani finished a penalty corner opportunity in the 23rd minute, converting a pass from classmate Tina Londino (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City), and freshman Lauren Frazier (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) made it a 2-0 advantage for WPU when she slipped a pass from Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) past Ramapo goalie Megan Tierney 1:32 before halftime.

Cipriani scored her second goal of the night midway through the second half, and sophomore Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) made it a 4-0 bulge in the 59th minute when she notched her 11 th goal of the year.

The Roadrunners made things interesting during the game's final 20 minutes, cutting the WPU advantage in half. Lindsay Hellwig scored Ramapo's first goal, converting a penalty corner with 9:36 remaining in the contest, and Amanda Wichnick made it a 4-2 game with her score off a deflection five minutes later.

Senior Grace Browne (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) made seven saves for WPU. Browne and back Amie Shannon (Millville, N.J./Millville) were honored prior to the contest as the members of the Pioneers' senior class.

William Paterson will now await the announcement of the tournament fields for postseason competition.
