WAYNE, N.J. (OCTOBER 3, 2006) – The William Paterson field hockey team (6-4, 1-2 NJAC) dropped a 3-1 decision to Montclair State (8-1, 2-1 NJAC) Oct. 3 at WPU's Wightman Stadium.
The Red Hawks found the back of the cage midway through the first half when Jacquie Supko scored an unassisted goal from the right side of the circle. Kristen Swartz made it a 2-0 score 10 minutes into the second half, but WPU freshman
Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) cut that lead in half when she connected with a
Tina Londino (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) pass with 20:56 on the clock. However, the Red Hawks were able to put the game away with less than 15 minutes remaining when Jennifer Tanis charged up the field and scored, giving MSU a 3-1 edge.
Senior
Grace Browne (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) made 10 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
"Overall, we couldn't execute the things we do well, like our short passing." said third-year WPU head coach
Lindsay Bard. "Allison (Tauscher) had an amazing defensive game tonight. But our short passing is our strength, and we just didn't execute that well enough tonight."
