Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored both goals as the William Paterson women's soccer team (8-5-2, 4-3-1 NJAC) secured a berth in the NJAC Tournament, defeating Rutgers-Newark (6-11, 2-6 NJAC) 2-0 Oct. 21.
Kurdyla headed in
Annie Willman's (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth) looping feed in the 29th minute, then scored her 15th goal of the season when she knocked back a hard shot off the keeper in the 70th minute.
Freshman
Jessica Reibis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson) made nine saves for her first complete-game shutout.
“The team has really worked hard this season, and they are very deserving of this chance to play in the postseason,” said 10th-year head coach
Keith Woods. “They have really persevered, especially losing our only goalkeeper, but they have fought through it. Now we are just looking forward to Wednesday and playing Kean.”
The Pioneers will finish the regular season at home against Kean Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 4:00 p.m. WPU's first-round match of the NJAC Tournament will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 28, at a site and against an opponent to be determined.
