WAYNE, N.J. – Baseball senior pitcher Dan VandeVrede (Lincoln Park, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week May 4.

 

With the Pioneers facing elimination after an opening loss in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament, VandeVrede pitched a complete-game 8-2 victory against top-seeded and sixth-ranked Kean April 30. The right-hander allowed just two runs and one walk in 9.0 innings, striking out two Cougars to help propel the third-seeded Pioneers to the tournament finals. VandeVrede is 5-3 with a 4.88 ERA this season, tossing three complete games in nine starts.
