WAYNE, N.J. – Men’s basketball junior guard Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week Dec. 15.

 

Ellis led the Pioneers in scoring in both games last week, averaging 21.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 57.9 (11-19) percent from the field, 54.5 (6-11) percent from three-point range and 93.3 (14-15) percent from the line. He was 6-for-11 from the field, 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and perfect from the line (5-5) for 20 points during a 71-66 win against York (N.Y.) Dec. 10. His three-pointer during the game’s final 30 seconds broke a 66-66 tie, and he went to the charity stripe and buried both ends of the one-and-one (71-66, 12.7 seconds) for the final margin. Ellis had a game-high 22 points off the bench in a 71-54 victory against SUNY Old Westbury Dec. 13, scoring his 22 points in 22 minutes, including 17 during the second half to help blow open a four-point game at halftime.
