WAYNE, N.J. – Women’s sophomore swimmer Vera Blazevska (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) was named the Feb. 23 William Paterson Pioneer of the Week.
Blazevska broke four WP records at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 20-22. She helped the 200 free relay claim sixth place in the B Final (1:47.19) and the 400 medley relay place fourth in the B Final (4:13.92) Feb. 20. Blazevska then broke three school records Feb. 21. She had a third-place finish in the 400 IM preliminary race for a new WP best (4:42.68), then went on to finish fifth overall in the A Final (4:44.31). In the 100 breast prelim, she swam the first 50 in 30.70, another school record, then finished second overall in the 100 breast A Final (1:06.07) with another record-breaking time. She added her name to the WP record book for the fourth time of the meet as she broke the school record in the 200 breast preliminary race (2:22.32), a time that also was a B Cut for the NCAA Championships. She later finished second in the 200 breast A Final (2:22.69), and was sixth in the 400 free relay B Final (3:54.73).
