WAYNE, N.J. – Men’s basketball senior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) was named the Feb. 9 William Paterson Pioneer of the Week.
Burgos averaged 21.5 points and 4.0 assists during two WP victories. He started the week with 11 points during a 70-67 victory at Montclair State Feb. 4. With the Pioneers trailing 67-64 with 50 seconds to play, Burgos scored five straight points, including a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to push William Paterson ahead, 69-67. He then had a season-best 32 points and a career-high six assists during a 95-61 win Feb. 7 against Rutgers-Newark. Burgos was 8-for-12 (.667) from the field, 4-for-7 (.571) from three-point range and 12-for-14 (.857) from the free-throw line against the Scarlet Raiders.
