Colasante, Flores Lead Seven Baseball All-NJAC Selections

Colasante Named Fireman of the Year, Flores Earns Spot on First Team

PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson junior outfielder AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) earned a spot on the 2013 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball All-First Team and freshman reliever Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) was named the league's Fireman of the Year, leading a list of seven Pioneers honored by the conference office May 1.

Senior catcher Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) and sophomore designated hitter Mike Arnold (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) garnered spots on the All-NJAC Second Team, and junior third baseman Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest), junior first baseman Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and senior left-handed pitcher Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) were honorable-mention selections.

Flores leads the Pioneers with a .391 average (third in league), a .460 on-base percentage (third in NJAC) and 19 stolen bases (seventh in conference), adding 26 RBI and 38 runs scored (tied-second in conference).  A starter in 37 of 38 games, he has tallied 59 hits (second in league, 37th in Division III), including seven doubles, two triples and a home run, has drawn 22 walks (tied-seventh in NJAC) and has collected three sacrifice hits, two sacrifice flies (tied-ninth in conference) and 73 total bases (tied-seventh in league) while not making an error in 75 total chances (70 putouts, five assists) in the outfield.  Additionally, he is tied for first in runs/game (1.00) and ranks second in hits/game (1.55), seventh in steals/game (0.50) and 10th in walks/game (0.58) in the league statistics.  In conference action, he compiled a .378 average, .432 on-base percentage, nine stolen bases, five doubles, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored in 18 contests.  Tenth in WP career history with 45 career steals, he has started in 113 of 118 appearances as a three-year Pioneer, compiling a .337 average, 20 doubles, eight triples, 77 RBI and 113 runs scored.

Colasante is 2-1 with a league-best 1.19 ERA, .145 opponent batting average and six saves (32nd in Division III) in 12 relief appearances.  Striking out 16 hitters and walking seven in 22.2 innings overall, he had a 1-0 record, six saves, a 0.00 ERA, 10 strikeouts and four walks in 16.1 innings and seven appearances against NJAC opponents.  Colasante was selected as the April 10 and April 24 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week, and was a three-time NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honoree (April 8, April 22, April 29).

Fondacaro has posted a .331 average, 11 doubles (tied-sixth in NJAC), 33 RBI (fifth in conference), a .434 slugging percentage and 19 runs scored while starting in 35 of 37 appearances, primarily behind the plate.  He has thrown out 14 of 59 potential base stealers (.237) while compiling a .976 fielding percentage.  The March 11 NJAC Player of the Week, against league foes he hit .329 while staring all 18 games, collecting seven doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored.  During four seasons as a Pioneer (2009-10, 2012-13), Fondacaro has started in 95 of 107 appearances, hitting .285 with 25 doubles, 64 RBI and 56 runs scored.

Arnold owns a .325 batting average, three doubles, three triples (tied-second in league), 13 RBI, five stolen bases and 14 runs scored while starting in 21 of 28 appearances, seeing time at designated hitter and third base.  Third in the league stats in triples/game (0.11), during conference play he posted a .295 average, a double, triple, seven RBI and five runs scored, starting 12 of 14 games.  As a two-year Pioneer, Arnold has started 42 of 55 contests, hitting .327 with seven doubles, three triples, 28 RBI and 34 runs scored.

A first-year Pioneer, Guillod is hitting .352 with a team-high .586 slugging percentage (fifth in league), 12 doubles (fifth in NJAC), 75 total bases (tied-fifth in conference), four sacrifice flies (tied-third in league) and 38 RBI (third in NJAC) while chipping in three triples (tied-second in conference), four home runs (tied-fourth in league), a .446 on-base percentage (seventh in NJAC), 13 steals (eighth in conference), 23 walks (sixth in league) and 24 runs scored in 35 starts at third base and shortstop.  Guillod also ranks first in RBI/game (1.09), fourth in homers/game (0.11), fifth in doubles/game (0.34), sixth in triples/game (0.09), eighth in walks/game (0.66) and ninth in steals/game (0.37) in the conference statistics.  The March 25 ECAC Metro and NJAC Player of the Week, he compiled a .299 average, six doubles, two homers, 19 RBI and nine runs scored during 18 league contests.

A transfer from County College of Morris, Haughney ranks third among the everyday WP players with a .351 average, adding nine doubles, a home run, 17 RBI, 25 runs scored and a .455 slugging percentage while starting in 35 of appearances, primarily at first base.  In NJAC play, he hit .299 in 18 starts, chipping in three doubles, a triple, four RBI and 10 runs scored.

O'Shea leads WP with a 6-1 record in seven starts and 10 appearances, compiling a 1.85 ERA (sixth in conference), one save, a .192 opponent batting average (fourth in NJAC) and 49 strikeouts (tied-seventh in league) in 58.1 innings while tossing one complete game.  Tied for fifth in victories in the conference, in five appearances and four starts against NJAC foes, he was 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA and a save, striking out 26 in 31.1 innings and compiling a .163 opponent batting average.
