WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's and women's basketball teams continued their climbs up the national rankings Jan. 26, as the Pioneer men (18-1, 7-0 NJAC) moved up five spots to 16th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, and the Pioneer women (18-1, 6-1 NJAC) improved to eighth in the USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll and ninth in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

William Paterson is one of six Division III schools to currently have both of its basketball programs rated among the top 25 in the country by D3hoops.com (Amherst, Illinois Wesleyan, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater and Washington University, Mo.).

The Pioneer men most recently defeated Rutgers-Camden by a 57-44 score Jan. 23 for William Paterson's school-record 16th-straight victory. The Pioneers currently lead the New Jersey Athletic Conference's (NJAC) North Division standings and are the only team that is still unbeaten in conference play. A week ago, William Paterson made its 2009-10 season debut in the D3hoops.com Poll and was ranked 21st nationally.

The Pioneer women most recently earned a 90-42 win against visiting Rutgers-Camden on Jan. 23. William Paterson currently leads the NJAC's North Division by 1.5 games, and last week was ranked ninth by USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association and 11th by D3hoops.com. This week's ranking in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Poll marks the highest rating for the Pioneers this season.

William Paterson will play a pair of conference road doubleheaders this week, visiting New Jersey City Wednesday, Jan. 27 (women at 6:00 p.m., man at 8:00 p.m.), and Rowan Saturday, Jan. 30 (men at 1:00 p.m., women at 3:00 p.m.). The Pioneers will return to the Rec Center Wednesday, Feb. 3, when they host Ramapo for a 6:00/8:00 p.m. women's and men's doubleheader.
