Guadango Becomes Pioneers' 29th Baseball All-American

Sophomore Outfielder Named to ABCA Second Team

Mike Guadango became the 29th Pioneer to earn ABCA All-America accolades.
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson's Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) became the 29th American Baseball Coaches Association All-American in the program's history May 27 when the sophomore outfielder was named to the 2008 ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team.

A member of the 2008 ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III All-State First Team, he has been named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference's (NJAC) All-First Team each of his two seasons as a Pioneer. At the conclusion of the regular season, he led the league in almost every offensive category, and in the final conference statistics, he was atop the charts in batting average (.435), slugging percentage (.701), RBI (59, 22nd in Division III), doubles (17), total bases (124, 19th in Division III), hits/game (1.83), doubles/game (0.40), and RBI/game (1.40, 23rd in Division III). Guadango also was second in hits (77, 17th in Division III) and runs/game (1.26), third in runs (53), tied for third in home runs (eight), and fifth in on-base percentage (.495) and homers/game (0.19) in the NJAC.

As a freshman last spring, Guadango was selected to the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and was the NJCBA Division II/III Rookie Player of the Year.

Guadango is the 29th Pioneer to be named an ABCA All-American, and the first since 2004, when Joe Hernandez earned accolades at third base.

William Paterson was 23-19 overall and 10-8 in NJAC play this season, advancing to the NJAC Tournament.
