WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Dan Limone (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) became William Paterson's single-season and career stolen bases leader as the Pioneers (21-15) lost to visiting John Jay (16-16), 22-21, April 23.

Limone stole his second base of the day, and 32nd of the season, during the second inning to take over the top spot on the WP season chart. Then in the fourth, he stole second for his 90th career swipe to become the Pioneers' all-time leader.

A day after William Paterson dropped a 19-18 decision at No. 10 RPI, and John Jay won a 15-14 contest at Mt. St. Mary, the Pioneers and Bloodhounds were once again involved in a game dominated by offense, as WP and John Jay combined for 47 hits, including nine doubles, a triple and a home run. The Bloodhounds crossed the plate three times during their first at-bat, but the Pioneers scored three in the first, four in the second and five in the third for a 12-3 lead. Each side posted a run in the fourth before John Jay cut the lead to three at 13-10 with a six-run fifth, highlighted by a three-run Nick Bentivenga double.

John Jay tied the contest with a three-run John Massoni homer in the sixth, but William Paterson was able to answer with four runs of its own during the home half of the inning, two coming from an Anthony Perrone (Midland Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) double.

The Bloodhounds took the lead for good, exploding for seven runs on eight hits in the top of the seventh, as both Massoni and Steven Roman each drove in a pair of runs to give John Jay a 20-17 advantage. Johan Abad finished John Jay's scoring with a two-run single up the middle for a 22-17 score in the eighth.

However, WP would not give up, scoring four times during the bottom of the ninth to pull within one at 22-21. With the bases loaded and two outs, Vince Joyce's (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) grounder to third resulted in a force-out at second base, ending the Pioneers' comeback bid a run short.

Abad led John Jay with seven RBI, part of a 3-for-5 day. Four other Bloodhounds each had three hits, including Anthony Cestaro, who picked up the win in relief (2-1) after pitching the final 5.0 innings and allowing eight runs (four earned).

Sophomore Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) was 5-for-6 with two doubles, three RBI and five runs scored for the Pioneers. Derek Koppinger (Columbia, N.J./North Warren) was 4-for-7 with four RBI, and three others each had three hits. Mark Robbins (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) took the loss (0-2), throwing 1.2 innings of middle relief.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day Thursday, April 24, when the Pioneers host Montclair State at 3:30 p.m.
