OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - William Paterson men's and women's swimming and diving head coach
Ed Gurka posted his 700th career victory as the Pioneer women (2-0) earned an 88-85 win Oct.19 at Old Westbury (1-2).
Paired with a 92-79 victory by the WP men, Gurka now owns marks of 337-182 as the men's head coach and 363-181-3 as the women's head coach for an overall slate of 700-363-3 in his 41st season at William Paterson.
Senior
Vera Blazevska (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) led WP by notching her second consecutive performance as a triple winner, claiming the 1,000 free (11:46.33), 200 IM (2:23.42) and 100 breast (1:12.23).
Sophomores
Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) and
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) were double winners. Murphy touched first in the 200 free (2:14.27) and 100 free (1:00.91), and Reynolds took home the 50 free (26.45) and 100 back (1:05.09).
Single winners included sophomore
Christianne Joyce Pineda (Haskell, N.J./Hackensack) in the 100 free (1:07.45) and senior
Cassandra Beck (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) in the 500 free (6:24.09).
The quartet of sophomore
Hilde Gehr (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional), Beck, senior
Christine Gustafson (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and junior
Katelyn Diva (North Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) won the 200 yard medley relay (2:04.01).
Freshman
Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional), freshman
Janice Costa (Clifton, N.J./Bergen Arts and Science), freshman
Nicole Mitchell (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) and Reynolds won the 400 yard freestyle relay (5:07.99).
William Paterson will host FDU-Florham Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1:00 p.m.
