WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognized the outstanding academic achievements of its student-athletes at a luncheon held March 27 in the University Commons Ballroom.

The Pioneers acknowledged 84 student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of least 3.0 while attending WP for a minimum of three semesters.

William Paterson also inducted its first 25-member class into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national student-athlete honor society for juniors and seniors who have a minimum 3.4 GPA.

Senior men's swimmer Corey Matthews (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and senior softball shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII) addressed the gathering that included faculty members invited by the individual student-athletes as well as members of WP's Faculty Athletic Support Team (FAST). William Paterson President Kathleen Waldron, Provost Warren Sandmann and Vice President for Student Development Miki Cammarata were a part of the event as well, presenting the awards to the student-athletes.
