WAYNE, N.J. – After enjoying first-round byes, the William Paterson women's (24-1, 12-1 NJAC) and men's (23-2, 12-1 NJAC) basketball teams will host New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinal games this week as the top seeds in the North Division. The women will play Tuesday, Feb. 23, against Rowan, and the men Wednesday, Feb. 24, against Ramapo. Each game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. at the Rec Center.
For home NJAC Tournament contests, William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted for free (first 125 for semifinal, first 150 for final), courtesy of the Student Government Association, the Office of the Dean of Students, and the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Postseason events also count as double stamps for the Orange CRUSH program. General Admission will be $5.00. Visiting students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00.
The Pioneer women will take on No. 2 South seed Rowan (17-8, 9-4 NJAC), a 72-65 winner against No. 3 North seed Ramapo (11-15, 4-9 NJAC) in the first round Feb. 20 in Glassboro. The other first-round contest resulted in an 80-70 win for No. 2 North seed Montclair State (16-9, 9-4 NJAC) against No. 3 South seed Richard Stockton (13-13, 7-6 NJAC), and the Red Hawks will advance to play at No. 1 South seed Kean (24-1, 13-0 NJAC) Feb. 23. If the Cougars win their semifinal contest, they will host the championship game Friday, Feb. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
The Pioneer men, the overall top seed in the conference, will face No. 3 North seed Ramapo (18-8, 7-6 NJAC), a 62-60 winner at No. 2 South seed Rowan (16-9, 7-6 NJAC) in the first round Feb. 20. In the other first-round contest, No. 2 North seed Rutgers-Newark (20-6, 9-4 NJAC) earned a 61-44 win against No. 3 South seed Kean (9-16, 6-7 NJAC) and will advance to play at No. 1 South seed Richard Stockton (19-6, 9-4 NJAC) in the other semifinal Feb. 24. If the Pioneers win their semifinal contest, they will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2:00 p.m.
The Pioneer women, tied for seventh in the in the USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll and eighth in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll Feb. 16, most recently earned an 86-40 home win against New Jersey City Feb. 17 for their 10th straight victory.
