Basketball Teams Remain in the Top 10 of National Polls

Men Eighth, Women Seventh/Eighth on National Lists

Stephanie Summers and Gabriel Paul have helped the Pioneers to a combined record of 45-3 this winter.
WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's (22-2, 11-1 NJAC) and women's (23-1, 11-1 NJAC) basketball teams remained in the top 10 of the Division III national rankings Feb. 16, as the Pioneer men were eighth in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, and the Pioneer women were tied for seventh in the USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll and eighth in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

William Paterson is one of three Division III schools to currently have both of its basketball programs rated among the top 25 in the country by D3hoops.com, and one of two to have both squads ranked in the top 10 (Washington Univ., No. 1 Men, No. 6 Women; Carthage, No. 20 Men, No. 10 Women).

The Pioneer men saw their school-record 20-game win streak come to an end with a 55-46 loss at Rutgers-Newark Feb. 15. William Paterson has clinched the overall top seed, and a first-round bye, for the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament and will host a semifinal contest Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7:00 p.m. If the Pioneers win they will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2:00 p.m.

The Pioneer women most recently earned a 58-42 victory at Rutgers-Newark Feb. 15. William Paterson has won nine straight and has secured the North Division's top seed for the NJAC Tournament. The Pioneers will host a semifinal contest Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7:00 p.m.

William Paterson will finish regular-season play with a home doubleheader against New Jersey City Wednesday, Feb. 17 (women at 6:00 p.m., men at 8:00 p.m.) as the Pioneers will celebrate Senior Night at the Rec Center.
