INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – William Paterson senior
Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) will compete in the 100 back, 200 back and 100 fly at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The Championships will be conducted March 18-21 at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
McKay had an outstanding meet at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 20-22, establishing four new individual school records, competing on four school-record relays, and advancing to a total of seven A Finals.
She established new school records in the 50 free (24.48), 100 free (53.42), 100 back (57.73) and 100 fly (58.39), and helped lead the Pioneers to new best times in the 200 free (1:40.28), 400 free (3:39.85), 200 medley (1:50.69) and 400 medley (4:04.02) relays.
McKay was second in the 100 back (58.89), third in the 200 back (2:09.17) and fifth in the 100 fly (58.71) Mets A Finals. She also helped the 200 free (1:40.28), 400 free (3:41.19), 200 medley (1:50.69), and 400 medley (4:04.02) relays finish fifth in the A Finals.
For her efforts, McKay was selected to the 2008-09 All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) First Team in the 100 back, 200 back and 400 medley relay, and was a second-team all-conference selection in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay.
McKay will be the first women's swimmer from William Paterson to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2006, when
Kristin Clegg earned all-America laurels in the 100 back. Clegg finished her Pioneer career as an eight-time All-American, earning academic awards four times (2003-06), and twice receiving honors in both the 100 (2003, 2005) and 200 (2005-06) backs.
