Feriod, Winkelspecht Named to All-NJAC First Team

Szeliga Earns Honorable-Mention Field Hockey Laurels

PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson seniors Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) earned spots on the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Hockey All-First Team, the league office announced Nov. 10. Junior Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was an honorable-mention honoree.

Feriod earned first-team all-NJAC accolades for the second straight year after starting in all 18 games this fall and registering 15 points (6 g, 3 a) to rank fourth for the Pioneers in scoring. The senior midfielder, who was a member of the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-South Atlantic Region Second Team, provided the game-winning goals in back-to-back victories to open the 2009 season (3-2, Muhlenberg, 9/1/09; 2-1, RPI, 9/5/09). She ranks tied for ninth in game-winning goals and tied for 15th in goals in the conference statistics, and during her four-year career she started in 71 of 72 contests and tallied 12 goals and 17 assists for 41 points. Feriod will compete in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game Sunday, Nov. 22, at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., at 9:30 a.m.

Winkelspecht received her first all-conference award after posting six goals and six assists for 18 points to rank third for the Pioneers in scoring this fall. The senior forward started in all 18 games this year, scoring twice against Wesley (10/10/09) and providing the game-winning score in a 5-2 victory against Wilkes (10/5/09). Winkelspecht ranks tied for second in assists, tied for fifth in assists/game (0.33), and tied for 15th in goals in the league statistics. During her four-year career, she started in 72 of 75 contests and tallied 32 goals and 17 assists for 81 points to finish tied for fourth in points and sixth in goals on the William Paterson career charts.

Szeliga was a first-time all-conference honoree after starting in all 18 games this season at center back. She scored three times, all via penalty strokes, and registered four defensive saves to rank fourth in the NJAC statistics. Szeliga has started in 56 of 57 career games and has contributed six goals and an assist for 13 points.

William Paterson finished the season 9-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
