Men’s Swimming and Diving Concludes Mets with a Ninth-Place Finish

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team concluded its four-day competition at the Metropolitan Championships, earning a total of 343 points which placed ninth place out of 11 Division III teams, Sunday, Feb. 19.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Junior Brandon Arias (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Tech) scored seven points for the Pioneers, finishing 18th in the 1,650 free with a final time of 18:54.86.
  • Junior Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) added an additional five points for WP, finishing 20th in the 1,650 free with an overall time of 25:36.03.
  • The 400 free relay team consisted of freshman Nicky Byrd (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison), sophomore Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), junior Andrew Colligan (Andover, N.J./Sussex County Tech) and junior Brandon Arias (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Tech). The group finished 12th with a time of 3:32.11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Byrd posted a personal best in the 200 back (2:06.57) and in his opening 50 free of the 400 medley relay (24.89).
  • Apito secured a personal record in the 200 fly (2:16.84).
  • Peralta's 20th-place finish in the 1,650 free was a personal best (25:36.03).
