Men's Swimming and Diving Sits in Ninth After Third Day of Mets

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team completed its third day at the Metropolitan Championships with a ninth-place finish amongst 11 division III schools, Saturday, Feb. 18.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • The Pioneers 200 medley relay team consisted of freshman Nicky Byrd (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison), junior Andrew Colligan (Andover, N.J./Sussex County Tech), sophomore Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) and sophomore Ricardo Ordinola (Lodi, N.J./Passaic County Tech). The group finished 12th with an overall time of 1:47.61.
  • Apito swam a 4:47.58 during the preliminary round of the 400 IM.
  • Ordinola competed in the 100 fly preliminary round, finishing with a time of 1:04.35.
  • Junior Brandon Arias (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Tech) recorded a time of 1:57.98 in the 200 free preliminary round.
  • Colligan posted a final time of 1:07.21 during the 100 breast preliminary round.
  • Freshman Nicky Byrd (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison) led the Pioneers in the 100 back with a time of 58.86.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Arias earned a personal best in the 200 free (1:57.98).
  • Colligan secured a personal record in the 100 breast (1:07.21).
  • Junior Anthony Newman (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) posted a personal best in the 100 back (1:11.17).

  • William Paterson continues at the Metropolitan Championships Sunday, Feb. 19 with preliminary rounds starting at 9:30 a.m.
