PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The men's swimming and diving team posted a 9
th place finish of 10 Division III teams and 11
th rank of 13 teams total after earning 218 cumulative points by the end of the third and final day of competition Feb 23. Senior
Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) was awarded the Dick Krempecki Outstanding Senior Award.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Four Pioneers competed in the 1650 free to start the third finals of the weekend. Sharkey placed 15th (17:28.28), junior Bradley Belina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) was not far behind him in 17th spot (17:59.68) with a personal best, junior John Conlow (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished 21st with a personal best (19:10.47) and senior Matt Infurna (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) completed the race in 21:02.90 for 24th place.
- Senior Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) touched 6th in the C Final of the 100 free (48.76).
- Junior Jonathan Vela (Prospect Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) finished 8th in the C Final of the 200 fly with a time of 2:32.98.
- The 400 free relay posted a 3:24.25 pace to land 2nd in the B Final to complete the meet. Logue (48.47), junior Valentine Perez (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton) (52.35), Conlow (53.72) and Sharkey (49.71) added to the Pioneer point total for the meet.
IN THE NUMBERS:
- Multiple Pioneers recorded personal-best performances during the prelims of the final day of the competition. Freshman Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) posted a 2:49.34 pace in the 200 fly.
- Classmates Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) and Joey Croce (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) both had career races in the 200 back. The juniors touched the wall in 2:17.75 and 2:18.67, respectively.
- Perez swam a time of 2:34.62 to tally a personal-best performance in the 200 breast.
