PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With 154 points after two days of events, WP Men's Swimming and Diving placed 8
th in the lineup of 10 Division III teams and 10
th of 13 total teams at the Metropolitan Championships Feb 22.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Three Pioneers moved onto the final rounds of their events on day two of the competition.
- Senior Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) touched 3rd in the C Final of the 400 IM (4:30.45) by beating his own personal best that he set in the prelims.
- Junior John Conlow (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) also competed in the 400 IM. His career best of 4:57.57 allowed him to finish 8th in the C Final.
- Senior Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) scored 7th place in the C Final of the 200 free by touching the wall in 1:48.50.
- The Pioneers began the final events of the day with a 3rd place rank in the B Final of the 200 medley relay. Sharkey (26.86), junior Valentine Perez (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton) (30.59), Logue (24.27) and junior Honacy Beco Jr. (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) (24.46) completed the race in 1:46.18.
- The meet ended with the men's 800 free relay. WP tallied a 7:34.32 time in the race to rank 7th. Sharkey (1:49.16), Conlow (1:57.39), junior Bradley Belina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (2:00.47) and Logue (1:47.30) worked together in the event.
IN THE NUMBERS:
- Freshman Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) and junior Joey Croce (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) both recorded personal bests in the 100 back during the prelims. They posted times of 1:02.79 and 1:12.70, respectively.
- Sophomore William Pike (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) had a career-best performance in the 100 breast with a 1:09.16 finish in the prelims.
