Men's Swimming and Diving Concludes Day One of Mets in Ninth Place

The Pioneers Appeared in Four Finals

Junior Valentine Perez assisted the Pioneers in both the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The men's swimming and diving team finished ninth of 10 Division III teams and 11th of 12 total teams after day one of the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 21.  The Pioneers competed in four finals events and earned 67 points.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Senior Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) placed fifth in the C Final of the 500 free with a 4:58.41 pace.
  • Classmate Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) finished eighth in the C Final of the 50 free, touching the wall in 22.52.
  • The WP 200 free relay earned third in the C Final.  Logue (22.52), junior Joseph Croce (23.97), junior Valentine Perez (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton) (23.56) and Sharkey combined for a 1:32.89 mark.
  • The Pioneers finalized the first day of Mets with a 4:03.87 finish in the 400 medley relay.  Junior Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) (1:00.93), Perez (1:07.28), junior Jonathan Vela (Prospect Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) (1:01.16) and junior John Conlow (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (54.50) took fourth place in the B Final.
 
IN THE NUMBERS:
  • Conlow was one of multiple Pioneers with a career day.  He scored a new personal best in the 500 free with his 5:21.60 pace during the prelims.
  • Sophomore William Pike (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) also improved his best time in the 500 free during the prelims, finishing the race in 5:55.83.
  • Freshman Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) had a successful first day of the weekend by improving his time in the 50 free.  His time of 28.23 during the prelims gave him a new personal-best time.
  • Vela notched a personal best in the 50 free with a 26.07 finish in the prelims.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Mets action continues tomorrow, Feb. 22, in Piscataway, N.J.  The prelims start at 9:30 a.m.
