Men's Swimming and Diving Lands in a Tie for Eighth Place After Day Two of Mets

WP Places Five Individuals in C Finals

Sophomore John Conlow took sixth in the 400 IM C Finals with a career-best time.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Five men's swimming and diving team members competed in the C Finals of their races on Feb. 23 as WP concluded the second day of the Metropolitan Championships in a tie for eighth out of 12 Division III teams and tied 10th out of 14 total teams.
 

TOP PERFORMERS:
  • The men placed fourth in the B Final for the 200 medley relay.  Senior Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) (26.49), classmate Tyler Stevens (North Haledon, N.J/Passaic County Tech) (30.20), junior Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) (24.03), and senior Ryan Achyuthuni (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) (22.70) combined for a 1:43.42 effort.
  • Junior Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) placed second in the C Final of the 400 IM with his career-best time of 4:36.48 while sophomore John Conlow (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) took sixth with a career-best time (5:00.21) in the same final.  Junior Matt Infurna (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) also competed in the race and took seventh in the C Final with a time of 5:22.25. 
  • Macchia recorded a career-best time of 1:47.13 to touch fourth in the 200 free C Final.  Logue also swam the race and placed seventh with a career-best time of 1:47.79.
  • WP finished the meet by notching a time of 7:18.92 to touch eighth in the 800 free relay with contributions from Logue, Sharkey, Achyuthuni, and Macchia.
  • Sophomore Joey Croce (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) tallied a career-best time in 100 back (1:03.00) and classmate Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) notched a season-best time (1:02.10) in the same race.
  • Sophomore Valentine Perez (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton) recorded a career-best 1:11.49 in the 100 breast.
  • Stevens posted a career-best time of 1:08.29 for the 100 breast. 
 
UP NEXT:
  • WP returns to Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. tomorrow, Feb. 24, to compete in the third and final day of Mets.  The events are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
