Women's Swimming and Diving Opens the Season with a 102-89 Victory Against Western Connecticut

Santos, Friedman, and Boyton All Notch Individual Wins

Sophomore Taylor Friedman was a double winner against the Colonials.

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (1-0) opened its 2019-20 season at Wightman Pool with a 102-89 victory against visiting Western Connecticut (0-1) during its Breast Cancer Awareness meet Oct. 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore Taylor Friedman (South Amboy, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) was a double winner against the Colonials. She placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:32.51 and the 100 back in 1:11.72.
Iris Santos (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) also took home two races. The junior touched first in the 50 free (28.33) and the 100 free (1:02.34).
Senior Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) notched an individual victory in the 100 fly. She outswam her competition with a time of 1:10.11.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Freshman Jillian Starace (Toms River/Toms River East) posted three second-place finishes to add to the Pioneer points. She swam the 200 free in 2:24.04, the 100 fly in 1:16.94, and the 100 back in 1:16.25.
This is the seventh straight season that the Pioneers have won their season opener.
