PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore
Ashley Lawler (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) continued her successful season by notching a new William Paterson women's swimming and diving record in the one-meter 11 dives during the first of three days of competition at the Metropolitan Championships. The Pioneers concluded competition 13th of 16 teams and 10th of 13 Division III squads Feb. 16.
Lawler set the new school record by diving to a score of 388.95 in the one-meter 11 dives, breaking Hannah Hillebrand's 344.45 point performance during the Metropolitan Championships in 2016. The diver from Linwood, N.J. placed sixth in the finals for the Pioneers.
A season-best time in the 200 free relay was turned in by the quartet of junior
Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional), freshman
Iris Santos (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech), junior
Christianne Joyce Pineda (Haskell, N.J./Hackensack) and classmate
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran), as the group swam to a B Final victory (1:44.61).
Santos and Reynolds also reached the finals in the 400 medley relay with the help of sophomores
Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) and
Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour), although they were disqualified, finishing fifth in the B Final.
Seven events are on the slate for the second of three days of action at the Metropolitan Championships tomorrow, Feb. 17. Swimmers and divers will begin at 9:30 a.m. back at Rutgers University.
