PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Already possessing three school records in individual medley events, senior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) went on to break his own William Paterson men's swimming and diving best time in the 200 IM during day one at Mets. The senior proceeded to place in the A Final in the same event as the WP men reached the finals in two more events en route to a seventh place finish out of 17 total teams, and a sixth place slot out of the 14 Division III competitors, Feb. 16.
The Rockaway, N.J. native's record-setting edition of the 200 IM came in the prelims as he touched in 1:55.40, breaking his previously-held time set during the 2015-16 campaign (1:57.10). Taboadela then finished eighth in the 200 IM A Final (1:58.72), tying his regular season-best time set against The College of New Jersey Feb. 3.
The senior joined junior
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), classmate
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) and sophomore
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) to place first in the 200 free relay B Final (1:27.41), finishing just 0.63 second off the school record.
Macchia also contributed in WP's third appearance in day one's finals, swimming alongside freshman
Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa. /Ridley), sophomore
Terrence Hopkins (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) and freshman
Honacy Beco Jr. (Wantage, N.J. /High Point Regional) to take fourth in the 400 medley relay final (3:54.38).
The Pioneers have eight events on the docket tomorrow during day two of three at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 17. The action ensues at 9:30 a.m.
