WAYNE, N.J. – Thanks to a 101-76 rout of SUNY Cobleskill (5-3) Jan. 16 at Wightman Pool, the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (10-1) notched double-digit wins for the fourth straight season, using double winning performances from senior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and junior
William Barrett (Pompton Lakes, N.J. /Pompton Lakes ) in the triumph.
WP would prevail in 10 events all told, with six Pioneers posting individual wins. Taboadela's pair of first place times came in the 200 IM (2:09.75) and 500 free (5:01.49), while Barrett swept the one-meter (180.05) and three-meter dives (170.50).
Sophomore
Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) outlasted four swimmers to secure the 1,650 free (19:11.09), junior
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) edged out the competitors in the 200 free (1:56.01), senior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) won the 100 fly (55.34) by 6.09 seconds and freshman
Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa. /Ridley) touched first in the 100 back (1:06.02) to round out the Pioneers' single winners.
Both relay events also went to WP, as the quartet of Haughey, sophomore
Terrence Hopkins (Landing, N.J./Roxbury), freshman
Jonathan Vela (Prospect Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) and freshman
Jackson Preston (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) posted the time in the 200 medley relay (1:55.24) and Taboadela, sophomore
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.), Melendez and Macchia secured the 400 free relay (3:24.20).
The Pioneers put a five-meet winning streak on the line when they travel to face Bard (2-4) Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1:00 p.m.
