PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Following the first day of the Metropolitan Championships on Feb. 17, two school records were broken and the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team stands seventh of 12 Division III competitors. The Pioneers are also 10th of 15 teams overall.
Junior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), junior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), senior
Nick Cowie (Newton, N.J./Newton) and sophomore
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 400 medley relay (3:36.83) B Final, breaking the previous WP record (3:37.32) set by Stefan Rosales, Kirk Smith, Jeremy Lim and Voyta Karas during the 2009-10 season. Taboadela broke his own 50 back school record twice on the day. The junior swam a 24.60 50 back during the 400 medley relay prelims broke his record once more with a 24.20 in the 400 medley relay B Final. The junior set the previous 50 back record (25.47) during the 2014-15 season.
Taboadela, freshman
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.), Cowie and Macchia won the 200 free relay B Final (1:28.20).
Taboadela also reached the C Final in the 200 IM, placing fourth (1:59.30).
The Pioneers will continue at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 18-19.
