PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After day two of the Metropolitan Championships on Feb. 18, the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team is seventh of 12 Division III teams and 10th of 15 overall.
The Pioneers won one B Final and had seven swimmers reach the finals across four events.
Junior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), junior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), senior
Nick Cowie (Newton, N.J./Newton) and sophomore
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 200 medley relay B Final (1:40.29). It is the Pioneers' third B Final victory at Mets thus far.
WP had three finalists in the 400 IM. Taboadela placed eighth in the B Final (4:22.69) and senior
Jeremy Oiler (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) took second in the 400 IM C Final (4:31.93), ahead of freshman
Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West), who earned fifth in the 400 IM C Final (4:52.93).
Cowie swam to an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly C Final (53.52) and senior
Grant Ashcraft (Penns Grove, N.J./Woodstown) set a career-best time by touching seventh in the 100 back C Final (58.61).
Macchia, Cowie, Melendez and freshman
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) placed ninth in the 800 free relay for the Pioneers (7:23.41).
The Pioneers conclude competition at the Metropolitan Championships Sunday, Feb. 19.
