WAYNE, N.J. – After four consecutive wins to open the 2017-18 season, the William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (4-1, 0-1 NJAC) suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 184-51 contest to Rowan (3-2, 1-0 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener at home Nov. 10.
Leading the Pioneers was junior
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) who won the 100 back behind a season-best time of 1:03.16, breaking the 1:04 mark for the first time this season. In addition to garnering nine points in the 100 back, the Delran, N.J. native turned in a second-place time in the 50 free (26.67), just .20 second behind the lead.
WP had a series of swimmers set season and career-best times Friday, three of which were freshman. First-year long-distance swimmer
Daisey Ferraiuolo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) earned seven points for WP between the 1,000 free and 500 free, finishing second in the 1,000 free (13:24.80) and third in the 500 free (6:20.92), garnering personal-best times in both. Classmate
Sarah Myers (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) set her own personal bests in the same events, continuing improvement in her first year with career highs in the 1,000 free (15:06.36) and 500 free (7:21.75).
Kelsey Vespe (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Audubon) swam to the final wall in 59.41 in the 100 free, tying her personal best after posting an identical time during WP's win against Staten Island Nov. 7
Sophomore
Janice Costa (Clifton, N.J./Bergen Arts and Science) swam alongside Reynolds in the 100 back, notching her own season-best pace (1:14.80).
After downing Purchase 107-80 last season, the Pioneers look to repeat as victors when they travel to face the Panthers in Purchase, N.Y. Tuesday, Nov.14, at 6:00 p.m.
