WAYNE, N.J. - Senior
Vera Blazevska (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) won three events and two WP swimmers set season bests, but the William Paterson women's swimming and diving (11-3, 0-2 NJAC) fell to Montclair State (8-3, 2-2 NJAC), 154-115, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) competition Jan. 28.
Blazevska overcame the competition in the 100 breast (1:10.82), 200 breast (2:30.74) and 200 IM (2:21.70). The WP senior rallied from a four-second deficit with 100 yards remaining to claim the 200 IM by 0.98 second.
WP swept the diving events as senior
Courtney Lawler (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) won the one-meter (209.95) and freshman
Ashley Lawler (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) posted a winning score in the three-meter (201.85).
Pioneer season bests came from sophomores
Christianne Joyce Pineda (Haskell, N.J./Hackensack) and
Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional). Pineda set a season-best clip in the 100 fly (1:06.14), earning second in the event. Murphy set her in-season bests in the 200 free (2:11.96) and 1,000 free (12:11.53), taking third in each event.
The Pioneers host Ramapo Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 6:00 p.m. in the final home meet of the 2016-17 season.
