MADISON, N.J. – William Paterson senior Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) and junior Brianna Boyd (Delran, N.J./Delran) both advanced to the finals of the NJAIAW Tennis Tournament following the first day of action Oct. 8.
 
LaBruna defeated Stockton's Brynn Buechler 8-0 in the first round of Flight A singles, and was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Ty Ty Witten of Drew in the semifinals. She will face Drew's Ashley Camel in the Flight A singles final Sunday, Oct. 9.
 
LaBruna and Boyd were 8-2 winners against Kean's Alyssa Peterson and Anna Chan during the first round of the Flight A doubles competition, and posted an 8-4 semifinal victory against Summer Conover and Maria Ibarra of Stockton. They will take on Drew's Camel and Witten in the Flight A doubles final on Oct. 9.
 
Freshman Kaworu Ishikawa (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) fell 8-5 to Conover in the Flight A singles first round, and posted a 6-2 consolation win against Kean's Andrea Mendez.
 
In Flight B singles, Boyd dropped an 8-1 decision to Stockton's Colleen Anderson, and a 6-0 match against Rose Hughes of Kean in the consolation round.
 
Sophomore Jessica Papin-Yukhtanova (Newton, N.J./Newton) lost 8-2 against Drew's Maria Navas Espinal in the first round of Flight C, but bounced back for a 6-3 consolation victory against Christina Christodoulou of Drew. Freshman Michele Boyle (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) dropped an 8-1 Flight C first-round match to Stockton's Amanda El-Khouri and a 6-1 consolation match to Kean's Chan.
 
Freshman Danielle Nussberger (Lafayette, N.J./Sussex County Technical) fell 8-1 to Drew's Xylia Bruff in the Flight D first round, and 6-2 against Kean's Kayla Miller during the consolation match. Freshman Julienn Guzman (Jersey City, N.J./Liberty) dropped an 8-3 first-round decision to Drew's Sarah Noel Jeune, and classmate Rebecca Temple (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) fell in the Flight D first round to Galaxistar Douglas of Kean, 8-6.
 
Papin-Yukhtanova and Ishikawa lost 8-1 to Camel and Witten in the first round of Flight A doubles, and won 9-8 (7-0) against Hughes and Nayla Hinton of Kean during the consolation round.
 
Temple and Nussberger fell 8-2 to Kean's Carlie Casterline and Miller in the Flight B doubles first round, and 8-1 to Drew's Sophia Agathis and Jeune in the consolation match. Boyle and Guzman lost in the Flight B quarterfinals, 8-4, to Kean's Mendez and Michelle Luis, and 8-2 in the third-place match to Drew's Megan Jarvis and Christodoulou.
